Internet used by 71,3 percent of population

EKIP presented the overview of the electronic communications market to the ICT Association Board of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro. The Board members also discussed the Law on Chamber of Economy, as well as information about dual education. The 2018 Action Plan was adopted.

There are 34 registered operators at the Montenegrin electronic communications market. The anticipated income of this sector for 2018 ranges from EUR 220 to 230 million. In 2016, EUR 117 million was invested in this sector, EUR 63.3 million in the previous year, while EUR 37.6 million are being planned for this year.

During 2017, for the first time after several years there was an increase in fixed telephony. There is also a growing share of M:tel and Telemach in the market, while regarding the mobile telephony Crnogorski Telekom and M:tel record a growing trend.

Over 70% of population used Internet in 2017, which is 1.4 percent more than the previous year. 

According to the 2018 Action Plan of the ICT Association Board, the topics to be discussed at the meetings are as follows: raising the competitiveness of the ICT sector, presenting the possibilities of applying for EU projects, the implementation of IT services in the public sector of Montenegro, professional and personnel potentials of IT in development of Montenegro, eBusiness development and cyber security as a shared responsibility, cooperation with the ICT sector of the region etc.

The Board was informed that the Chamber is organizing the Montenegro - Slovenia ICT Business Forum and members are invited to participate in the forum. "The digitalization of public administration and development of information society aimed at business" will be discussed, and relevant ministers of the two countries are among the keynote speakers.

The meeting was conducted by the Board President Aleksandar Radulović, and attended by Ivan Saveljić, Vice President of the CEM, Pavle Mijušković, Deputy Director of EKIP, the Mitar Bajčeta, Head of Department for Legal and General Affairs of the CEM and Ph.D. Mladen Perazić, Head of Education Department.
