Mijuskovic hosted Italian delegation

15/02/2016

The president of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro (CEM) Mr. Velimir Mijuskovic hosted the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Foggia Mr. Fabio Porecca and the president of the Association of Friendship Puglia – Montenegro Mr. Riccardo di Matteo.

The President Mijuskovic has briefed the guests on the current economic situation and areas of potential cooperation. He points out that maritime connections between Montenegro and Bari, Puglia, are at a lower level in comparison to the previous period as well as the current needs. Since the goods from Italy to Montenegro and vice versa should primarily be transported by sea, it is necessary to improve the lines Bar-Bari and vessels for adequate realization. The President notes that this line, except for the transport of goods, is also important for the transport of passengers. Therefore, this is the reason why this connection needs to be developed so that both aspects are satisfied.

The president informed the guests on large projects as well, primarily in the field of tourism, which have been implemented or are under implementation. He sees opportunity for intensifying cooperation in the use of modern yacht marina Porto Montenegro as well, which can certainly be tempting for the Italian owners of this type of vessel. There are also opportunities for improving cooperation in tourism, where it can be expected to raise the interest in Montenegro as an attractive destination. However, one of the important preconditions for the realization of this is the good transport connections, both by sea and by air.

Cooperation in the field of energy which Montenegro realizes with Italy, through agreements with A2A and Terna, is important for our economy, especially since through submarine power cable Montenegro will have the chance to be recognized in the region as a energy hub, through which electricity produced will be exported not only in Italy, but also the rest of the European market. Presenting the potentials available to us to produce energy, the President presented the fact that Montenegro is now slightly using hydro potential, which is suitable for the construction of both large and small hydro power plants.

Today's visit of businessmen of the province of Puglia, President sees as an opportunity for renewal of closer economic cooperation and a greater presence of Montenegrin products in this region. For many years the CEM has organized the participation of the renowned Montenegrin businessmen in the Levant Fair. Taking into account the results Italy achieved in the field of ecology, the President has also expressed the hope that the cooperation with Montenegro will continue to move in the direction of joint projects, through which the Italian partners would share their experience in the field of waste management, with an emphasis on solid waste and waste water.

On this occasion, the president Mijuskovic has presented organization, activities and history of the CEM, noting that the CEM is also the chamber of public law, precisely as the Italian chamber system.

The President of the Foggia Chamber Mr. Fabio Porecca has expressed his gratitude to Mr. Mijuskovic for the reception and joint organization of the business forum. He has agreed with the views and ideas presented by Mijuskovic. In addition, he has pointed out the possibility of using funds for cross-border cooperation, through which quality financial support to address issues of great importance to the promotion of economic cooperation can be provided.

Since Mr. Mijuskovic is the Vice President of the Forum of Chambers of Commerce of the Adriatic and Ionian regions, eminent association of European scale, he has pointed out that the expansion of the network within the Association is very important, and the chamber of Foggia, just like other chamber of the region should be included into membership.
